How the Clock In Clock Out Calculator works

  1. Enter your clock-in and clock-out time for the day.
  2. Enter any unpaid break length in minutes.
  3. Add an hourly rate if you want to see estimated gross pay.
  4. For a full week, add a row for each day worked — the totals combine automatically.

Formula / logic

Hours worked = (Clock-out time − Clock-in time) − Break minutes, converted to decimal hours for payroll (e.g. 7h 30m = 7.5).

Worked example

Clock in 9:00 AM, clock out 5:30 PM, 30-minute break: total time is 8h 30m minus 30m break = 8 hours worked.

Frequently asked questions

What if I clocked in and out multiple times in one day?

Use the Time Card Calculator instead — it supports multiple in/out entries and totals them across the day.

Does the Clock In Clock Out Calculator handle overnight shifts?

Yes — if clock-out is earlier in the day than clock-in, the calculator assumes the shift ended the next day.

Is the break time paid or unpaid?

The tool assumes any break you enter is unpaid and subtracts it from the total — leave it at 0 if breaks are paid at your workplace.

Does this calculate net pay after tax?

No — it calculates gross hours and gross pay only (hours × rate). Tax withholding depends on your location and filing status.

Is the Clock In Clock Out Calculator free to use?

Yes — every calculator on this site is free, with no sign-up or download required.
